How to Properly Start Up a Hot Tub?

First, make certain the power is off at your breaker, and then check to make sure the interior of your spa shell is clean. If not, use HT All Purpose Cleaner. If there is any hard to remove grit on the shell surface, use a Spa Mitt to make it easier.

Some people have water delivered but most just use a garden hose.

A good idea is to let the water run for about a minute to rid any sediment in the hose.

Even better, I recommend attaching a Pre-Sediment Filter to the garden hose. It helps eliminate the metals that may be in your fill water. The better water you start with, the easier it will be to keep your water crystal clear and healthy.

Plus, this filter will give you about 6 to 8 spa fills, which means one filter will last a few years.

Another good idea is to remove a filter cartridge and fill your hot tub directly in the open filter cavity.

This minimizes the chance of getting an air lock in your lines.

Remember the better water you start with, the easier it is to maintain and the less chemicals you’ll have to use.

When your spa is filled, turn on the power and check to see that your controls and pumps are working properly.

While the water is filling it’s a good time to add a pint of HT Stain & Scale, this protects your shell and your spas internal components from minerals in your water.

Now when the water is still cold test your hardness level and correct if necessary. It’s easier to raise your calcium levels when the water is cool.

Once the water reaches temperature of at least 90 degrees, test and correct your pH and alkalinity levels if necessary.

Then simply add the sanitizer you chosen to use.

And that’s it.

Your hot tub is now ready to be enjoyed.

Just remember to follow all the instructions on safe usage in your spas owner’s manual
