How much maintenance do hot tubs require?

Properly caring for your hot tub is quite easy and not very time consuming.
When you fill your hot tub, check your hardness level, and correct it if necessary. In most cases you won’t have to worry about it until the next time you drain and fill your hot tub.

If you’re using chlorine, you should be adding a little every other day. For Bromine you only need to check and fill the feeder about once a week.

And whether you are using chlorine or bromine, it’s recommended to add a few ounces of HT Spa Activator each time after your spa is used. This reduces the amount of sanitizer you will use, and it helps improve the quality of your water.

It’s also a good idea to place an HT Mineral Cartridge in your filter area. It cuts the amount of sanitizer you will use in half, and it lasts for about 4 months.

In the beginning check your filters weekly to see how much debris they capture. On average filter cartridges should be cleaned every month or two.

To help keep your water crystal clear you should add one or two ounces of HT Natural & Clear each week. It gets rid of particles that are too small to be captured by the filter.

And if you have a high mineral count in your water add one or two ounces of HT Protection Plus or Stain and Scale each week to prevent scaling.

Most important, once a week or whenever the water doesn’t look right, use a test strip to check the pH and Alkalinity of your water. To make life easy, once your pH and Alkalinity is right, add HT pH Hold & Water Softener. It keeps your pH and Alkalinity set until you drain your spa. It virtually eliminates having to constantly adjust your pH and Alkalinity. Plus, it softens the water which a lot of people seem to like.

As you can see caring for your hot tub is quite easy. The only real time-consuming job is when you need to drain and refill it. And that only happens every 3 to 5 months depending on the size of your hot tub and how often you use it.
